Forever Litter Tray Set-up
Instructions
Setting up the Forever Litter Tray is
easy, and the components are designed to give you many years of trouble-free service. Included with each
package is a Forever Tray and a Forever Flap Kit consisting of two flaps.

As this is a permanent tray, your setup will be
slightly different from what you may have been used to with the cardboard trays. Following these simple steps
will not only make everything work more easily -- but eventually this routine will make litter changes
a snap -- reducing your litter changes to just
a few minutes.
First, tilt the unit back so that it's standing
on its back end (as shown below) as you normally would when changing your cartridge.

Next, slide your empty Forever Tray into place,
and fill with approximately 4.4 to 4.5lbs of crystal litter. (IMPORTANT: Size of the cystals is crucial to proper operation of the machine and
tray. Please make sure you are using the correct size of crystals. Please see "Crystal Litter Recommendations" for more details and
crystal recommendations, as well as other great tips to make life a little easier). The reason for using 4.4 to
4.5lbs of crystals is that it is the weight (drag) of the crystals in the
tray that causes the rake to flip on the return trip -- so if your rake is not flipping it is most likely due to
not having enough crystals in the tray.
Make sure you
fill the tray so that the litter is evenly spread, and reaches to the edge of the "anti-sliding ridge" (see photo
below):

One question that gets asked quite often is the
purpose of the small barrier at the back ("poop compartment" end) of the tray. This is not intended to
exclusively be the poop storage area (although as it gets closer to time to change the tray you will tend to see
more poops there) but rather simply a way to help reduce sliding of the litter, along with the small anti-sliding
ridge that is also unique to the Forever Trays. The "poop storage area" is actually all of the area under the poop compartment cover.
Forever Flap Kit
Installation
The Flap Kit is quite easy to install and
allows for considerable added capacity in the poop compartment area, while at the same time adding even more
convenience. The capacity is increased as we are no longer confined by using a "lid" attached by magnets to
the main cover, but instead using a flap at the back and the front to help with odor containment, allowing for more
space. The added benefit to this design (as we are no longer required to use the magnets) is that it
makes it a lot easier to tilt the cover back for the occasional "rake an stir" (please see the
"Tips" section for more details -- this is a very important way to get the most out of your
litter).
Each Flap Kit consists of two
identical flaps, with one attached to the front edge of the poop compartment cover, and the other
attached to the Forever Tray itself. We're going to slip the first flap onto the poop compartment lid
with the two clips facing inward (inside) the lid. The photos below illustrate how it should attach --
making sure that it is centered, and that you slide the flap on all the way so that the two clips
are fully engaged. As you can see from the photos the flaps are designed to fit the covers of all
brands and models of machine.

Next, we're going to fit the other flap to the
back of the Forever Tray by slipping it onto that edge. The purpose of this flap is to help keep
odors from creeping out through that gap at the back, and also to prevent spillage of crystals out the
back if the poop compartment should get over full as you near the end of a cycle. Simply slide it
on, engaging the clips as illustrated in the photo. This time the clips should be on the outside (back
side) of the tray, with the bend in the flap tilting inwards towards the box, making sure that it is
centered on the tray (see photo below). You can fit the flap either before lowering the machine (as illustrated) or
after the machine is lowered back down over the tray -- it doesn't matter. If you do it with the machine
already lowered onto the tray you will need to slide the tray forward in the machine frame just a little to
make sure there's enough room -- but it should fit with no problem.

And here's a photo of both flaps properly
installed:

We're now ready to lower the machine down onto
the tray, making sure that the flap at the back (the one attached to the tray itself) is centered inside the
cover. The tolerances are a bit close in order to reduce gaps --but once you've done it once or twice you'll
get the hang of centering that flap in there and it will go together like a breeze. (Positioning shown in the
left photo, with more detail in the right hand photo below).

.....and you're all set to
go!!!
