Set-up
Instructions
Setting up the Forever Litter tray in your
Scoop Free is quite easy. As this is a permanent tray, your setup will be slightly different from what you
may have been used to with the cardboard trays. Following these simple steps will not only make everything
work more easily -- but eventually this routine will make litter changes a snap -- reducing your litter changes to just a few minutes.
First, tilt the Scoop Free unit back so that
it's standing on its back end (as shown below) as you normally would when changing your cartridge.

Next, slide your empty Forever tray in place,
and fill with approximately 4 to 4.5lbs of crystal litter (or simply one pre-measured bag of "Just the Crystals".
(IMPORTANT: If using a different brand please make sure you
are using the correct size of crystal -- this is crucial for the proper operation of the unit. Please see
"Crystal Litter Tips & Recommendations" for
more details and crystal recommendations. Also -- it is the weight (drag)
of the crystals in the tray that causes the rake to flip on the return trip -- so if your rake is not flipping
simply add more crystals up to the correct amount).
Make sure you
fill the tray so that the litter is evenly spread, and reaches to the edge of the "anti-sliding ridge" (see photo
below):

Next, place the clear lid into the tray,
ensuring that the two tabs go into the notches and that the front edge of the clear lid is resting on top of the
thin layer of crystals you just put in. (See detail below). This ensures the sealing off of the front edge of the
compartment and will make sure your clear lid gets a solid attachment to the magnets in a later step.
(Note: the clear lid is not designed to close down on the very bottom of the tray. By design, it needs to rest on
the crystals to seal properly -- and to have the correct clearance over the rake on the forward
stroke).

Now you're ready to set the Scoop Free down
over the prepared tray, per the photo below.
Always make sure that the little white pegs
on the sides are above the clear lid. What lifts the lid are
the magnets of the purple cover -- not the pegs. If you've got the tray
properly assembled you should only need to touch the clear lid occasionally for cleaning, so you can leave it
attached to the blue lid for routine litter changes. Just tilt the Scoop Free up on its
end, leaving the lid attached. It's the magnets that actually lift the
lid, and the floating hinge is only there to set it in the tray and locate the lid before you tilt the unit
down over the tray.

Now we need to make
certain that the magnets of the purple cover are clicking onto the metal tabs of the clear lid. Simply press down
lightly on the purple cover until you hear them "click" (see below). (Per one of the previous steps, the edge
of the clear lid should be resting on the layer of crystals in the tray).

.....and you're all set to
go!!!
One question that gets asked quite often is the
purpose of the small barrier at the back ("poop compartment" end) of the tray. This is not intended to be the
poop storage area, but rather simply a way to reduce sliding of the litter. The poop compartment (storage
area) is actually all of the area under the purple cover (and of course clear lid).
