Rake catches on Clear Lid

While the majority of Forever tray users have had trouble-free operation, there have been a few people who have reported the rake catching on the clear lid as it clears the "poop compartment" on the return journey.  (This was found only on the second generation of trays (sold between January and July of 2009, and with the most recent design this is no longer an issue).

The solution can be done by virtually anyone in less than 10 minutes -- without any special tools and without having to buy anything!

First, let's take a look at the part of the lid we'll be modifying -- the 90 degree bend along that front edge.  Below is how it should look from the side before we start:

Next, we're going to run the whole length of that 90 degree edge under hot tap water.  It should be as hot as you can get from the tap (you really don't need it any hotter -- and we don't want anyone to get burned!)  Run the whole edge under the hot water (see below) for about 30 seconds or so.

Next, we're going to set the lid on a hard flat surface (kitchen countertop works fine) and press down firmly to open that 90 degree bend to about 120 degrees.  We've warmed the plastic up, so it will be more pliable.  It's very strong, so don't worry about breaking it.  Once you're satisfied it's pretty close, we want to run it back under cold water again to make it "set".  You can play with it a little (running it back under hot) to get the whole edge fairly uniform.  Below is a picture of the pressing part:

And here's what the finished 120 degree bend should look like when you're done!

And you're all set to go!  This modification will ensure that your clear lid will no longer contact the rake.
